Soft99 Glaco Blave

Glaco Blave — Soft99's glass-and-plastic water repellent in a felt-tip bottle. Soft99 calls it the first Glaco suitable for both plastic and glass: rub it onto a clean, dry surface and wipe it straight off with the supplied cloth, with no waiting.

The chemistry

Soft99 lists the ingredients as silicones and alcohols and does not publish a fuller formulation, so we won't describe more than that. What matters in use is the surface: Blave is the Glaco that Soft99 positions for plastic as well as glass, whereas the other Glaco liquids (Ultra Glaco, DX) are glass-only and Soft99 says not to use them on plastic.

Use it for

Soft99 suggests headlight lenses, lamp covers, wind guards, helmet shields and goggles as well as glass. It is the quick treatment for when you want an apply-and-wipe job with no drying step. Soft99 gives no durability figure for Blave, so we don't quote one.

How to use

Apply only to a clean, dry surface. Remove the cap, press the felt applicator onto the surface and gently squeeze to release some liquid. Rub it in firmly, covering the whole surface, then — without letting it dry — wipe it off with the supplied cloth. There is no waiting step: apply and wipe.

Don't apply in direct sunlight, on hot surfaces, or below 0°C; below 10°C, warm the glass with the heater and demister first. Don't use oil-film-remover washer fluid. Soft99 recommends its own Glaco wipers because ordinary wiper rubber can be damaged by Glaco (Soft99's wiper range is not sold in Australia). If the felt gets dirty, clean it thoroughly — grit can scratch.
