P&S Detail Products has been making cleaning chemistry in California since 1961 — first for commercial fleets and professional shops, and only later for the enthusiast market. That order matters. These are products designed to be used all day, every day, by people paid to do it, and the range still reads that way: a small number of bottles that each do one job properly, rather than a wall of variations.
Alpha Details carries a focused selection of the line — the ones we reach for in the studio.
Start with the three that do 90% of the work
Bead Maker is the one P&S is famous for, and it is the easiest win in detailing. Spray it on a wet or dry panel, spread, wipe off. It is a polymer paint protectant designed to be layered over whatever you already have — wax, sealant or ceramic coating — so it tops up gloss and slickness after a wash instead of replacing your protection. The slickness is the giveaway: run your hand over a panel before and after and you will feel the difference immediately.
Brake Buster is a non-acid foaming wheel cleaner, and that distinction is the whole point of the product. Acid wheel cleaners work fast but they are indiscriminate — they will etch polished lips, attack anodising and shorten the life of a wheel coating. Brake Buster lifts brake dust and road film without that risk, which means you can use it on coated wheels, painted faces and delicate finishes without thinking twice. It comes in 473ml, and in a 3.8L for when you are going through it.
Xpress Interior Cleaner handles every hard interior surface — dash, door cards, plastics, vinyl, screen surrounds — with one bottle and no residue or shine left behind. Most interior jobs do not need a specialist product; they need one that does not leave a greasy film.
If you want all three, the P&S Trio bundles them, and the Maintenance Five — The 90% Kit is the fuller set for a complete maintenance wash.
Finishing and show work
Dream Maker is the gloss amplifier — a final-step spray for depth and clarity on dark paint, used after correction or before a show. The Bead Maker Ritual Kit pairs the sealant with a bottle and towels if you are starting from nothing.
The one most people skip — and shouldn't
Rags to Riches is a dedicated microfibre detergent, and it solves a problem most detailers do not realise they have. Household laundry liquid is built to leave things behind — optical brighteners, perfumes and above all fabric softener, which coats fibres to make them feel soft. On a bath towel that is pleasant. On microfibre it is a disaster: the coating fills the spaces between the fibres, and a towel that cannot hold water or grit is a towel that pushes grit across your paint instead.
If you have good microfibre, washing it in the wrong thing is the fastest way to ruin it.
Double Black — the Renny Doyle collection
Double Black is P&S's professional line, developed with Renny Doyle — a detailer of more than three decades who is better known in the trade for training and mentoring other detailers than for any single product. The line exists because he wanted chemistry built around how professionals actually work rather than how products photograph. Dynamic Dressing is the Double Black item we stock.
A chemist's note
Paolo holds a degree in chemistry, so two honest notes on this range. Bead Maker is a topper, not a coating — it is genuinely good at what it does, and it is not a substitute for a ceramic coating or a proper sealant. Treat it as maintenance, applied after every wash or two, and it will never disappoint you. And "non-acid" on Brake Buster is a formulation decision, not a weakness — it is exactly why the product is safe on the finishes that cost the most to replace.
