WHAT'S IN THE KIT

• 1 × Labocosmetica LUBRIFICA PLUS 4.5L. Concentrated clay lubricant and film slip solution, diluted with water before use. Graduated pipette included.
• 1 × Bilt Hamber Auto-Clay. Choose Soft, Medium or Regular at the grade selector above.

WATER OR LUBRICANT — A STRAIGHT NOTE

Bilt Hamber designed Auto-Clay to run on plain tap water, and it works that way. Bilt Hamber also notes that a dedicated clay lubricant may be used. LUBRIFICA PLUS is in this kit for the extra glide if you prefer a lubricated pass, and because the same concentrate is what you mix for installing PPF, wet-install vinyl and window tint. Rinse the panel after claying, before whatever protection comes next.

DILUTION

In our own studio we run LUBRIFICA PLUS at roughly 30ml per litre of water, and that is a sensible starting point to dial in from. At that rate the 4.5L container makes in the order of 150 litres of working solution. Labocosmetica publishes richer ratios for specific jobs; the full detail is on the LUBRIFICA PLUS page.

CHOOSING AN AUTO-CLAY GRADE

Bilt Hamber's grading is a contamination-and-temperature decision, because all clay firms up when cold and softens when warm. Regular suits heavily contaminated paint or a car that has never been clayed, and is also the right choice in hot weather. Medium suits paint in reasonable condition and is the most forgiving all-rounder. Soft suits paint in good condition or frequent claying, and is also the right choice in cold weather.

HOW TO USE

Wash the car first and work on cool, shaded paint. Mist water (or diluted LUBRIFICA PLUS) over a section of about 2–3 square feet, glide the bar back and forth under light pressure and keep the surface wet at all times. Fold and knead to a fresh face as the bar loads up. Never use it dry and never reuse a bar you have dropped. Clay is the last step of decontamination, so do it before you polish. Clay paint and glass, not paint protection film.

SAFETY

LUBRIFICA PLUS is a concentrate, so wear eye protection when decanting it and read the Safety Data Sheet before use; Labocosmetica marks it for professional detailer use. Auto-Clay is not classified as hazardous.
