Why Choose Alpha Details for Your Paint Protection Film Install in Melbourne

Paint Protection Film is one of the most expensive things you can put on your car, and one of the most commonly installed badly. The film itself is usually fine — Suntek, STEK and CarPro Immortal are excellent products when you buy them from a legitimate source. The reason a PPF job fails early, lifts at the edges, or sits visibly on the paint isn't the film. It's everything that happens before and during the install. That's the part we built Alpha Details around.

Hand-cut installs, tucked edges, chemistry-driven prep. That's the difference.

We're chemistry-first, not install-first

Paolo, who runs Alpha Details, has a degree in chemistry. That isn't a marketing line — it's the reason we prep paint the way we do. Most PPF installers treat the paint surface as something you just need to clean. We treat it as a chemical substrate that the adhesive has to bond to for the next ten years.

The adhesive on the back of any PPF film doesn't bond to paint. It bonds to whatever is sitting on top of the paint. Residual polymer from a previous wax, silicone fallout from road spray, ionic contamination from brake dust baked into the surface — if any of that's still there, the adhesive attaches to it rather than to your clearcoat. That's how you end up with film that looks perfect on day one and starts lifting at the edges in eighteen months.

Worth knowing →We run the same decontamination process before PPF that we run before a ceramic coating: iron decontamination, tar removal, clay or synthetic clay pass, IPA or purpose-built surface wipe to strip residual oils, inspection under proper lighting. Only then does the film go on. It takes longer. It's the reason our film stays down.

We hand-cut every install

Most PPF shops install film using pre-cut plotter patterns — a computer-cut template generated from the manufacturer's digital model of your car. It's fast, it's consistent, and it's how shops maximise cars-through-the-door per week. It's also why so many PPF installs look like PPF: visible seams running down panels, pattern cuts that stop short of real body lines, and edges that aren't wrapped because plotter patterns are designed to stop before an edge rather than tuck around it.

We hand-cut on the car. That means slower work, more skill required, and more care taken around every panel. The payoff is that we can wrap edges instead of stopping short of them, tuck film under body lines so the seam disappears, and adapt to panel-specific variations that a plotter pattern can't see — things like a previous paint repair that made one panel slightly thicker, or an edge radius that's tighter than the manufacturer's digital model.

We install the films worth installing

We carry three films by default: Suntek, STEK, and CarPro Immortal. Each one is formulated differently.

Suntek Ultra leans into hydrophobicity and long-term gloss. STEK DYNOshield adds a ceramic-infused topcoat for chemical resistance. CarPro Immortal prioritises optical clarity and a clean, unobtrusive finish. None of them is objectively "the best" — they each trade one strength for another, and the right choice depends on how you use the car.

If you have a specific brand preference — XPEL, 3M, anything else reputable — we'll source it. What we won't do is install an unverified film from a grey-market supplier, and we won't tell you one film is better than another when what we actually mean is "that's the one our rep gives us the biggest margin on." We explain the trade-offs and let you pick.

Everything is done in-house

Most PPF shops do one thing well and send you elsewhere for the rest. If you want wheel protection, interior protection, glass coating, or undercarriage protection on top of your PPF, you end up booking three different businesses and coordinating them yourself. Whatever the first installer did to your paint is now gone by the time the second one touches it, which means you pay for decontamination twice.

We do all of it under one roof. If you book PPF with us, you can add ceramic coating on top of the film, wheel face and barrel coating, interior leather and fabric protection, glass coating, and undercarriage coating — all on the same booking, prepped once, installed by the same team that did your film. The result is coherent protection instead of a patchwork of jobs done by people who didn't talk to each other.

Every install includes a complimentary first wash

Most shops hand you the car back with a list of rules — don't wash for seven days, don't touch the edges, don't use this or that product — and leave you to figure it out on your own. We include your first wash with the install, and we'll walk you through it in person if you want to learn how to maintain the film yourself.

The first wash is where customers make the mistakes that cost them film life. Wrong shampoo, wrong technique, wrong drying method — any of those can introduce marring before the film has finished its initial seating period. We do it with you, show you the products and technique we use, and answer whatever questions come up. After that you're set to maintain it yourself, or you can keep bringing it back to us for regular maintenance washes.

Chemistry sets the ceiling. Installation decides whether you hit it.

Transparent starting prices

Our packages start at:

Partial Front from $2,500. Full Front from $3,500. Track Pack from $4,000. Full Body Wrap from $12,000.

These are genuine starting prices, not loss leaders. They vary up from there depending on the car, the film choice, and any extras you want bundled in — but we quote you an honest number based on your specific vehicle before you commit to anything. No sales-floor pressure, no "today only" discounts, no mystery surcharges when the car is already pulled apart.

The install you can't see is the one that lasts. The install you can see is the one that wasn't worth paying for.
