Koch Chemie RRR Reactive Rust Remover — pH-Neutral Iron Decontamination

Reactive Rust Remover dissolves the ferrous contamination a wash cannot touch: airborne rail and brake dust that has embedded itself in paint, glass and wheels, plus superficial surface rust and other inorganic fallout.

The active is a thioglycolate — ammonium mercaptoacetate — at 15–40%. It does not attack iron with acid. The thiol group reduces and then binds iron into a water-soluble complex, and it is that complex which produces the violet-red bleed you watch run down the panel. What you are seeing is contamination leaving the surface in solution, not the surface being etched.

Because it works by chelation rather than acid attack, the finished formulation sits at pH 7–8 — genuinely neutral. There are no mineral acids and no caustic in it, which is what makes it a sensible choice on paint, glass and wheels where a traditional acid cleaner would not be.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS
  • pH 7–8, genuinely neutral. Verified on the manufacturer's safety data sheet, not a marketing claim.
  • Visible colour indicator. The violet-red bleed shows you exactly where iron contamination is sitting.
  • Long, wet dwell. The formulation is balanced to stay wet through the full 3–6 minute reaction window rather than flashing off.
  • Paint, glass and wheels. Removes rail dust, burnt-in brake dust, superficial rust and other non-organic fallout.
  • Rinses clean. No residue left behind to interfere with the next stage of the wash.
DIRECTIONS
  1. Work on a cool surface, out of direct sunlight.
  2. Spray undiluted onto the surface.
  3. Allow three to six minutes for the product to react. Do not let it dry.
  4. Agitate with a soft brush or sponge if needed.
  5. Rinse thoroughly.
IMPORTANT

Do not apply to hot surfaces. Check compatibility on an inconspicuous area first — Koch Chemie specifically calls out polished aluminium and other sensitive surfaces. Never allow the product to dry on paint. Wear gloves and eye protection: the concentrate causes skin and eye irritation and may cause an allergic skin reaction.

DILUTION

Ready to use. Do not dilute.

DOING WHEELS? YOUR DISCS WILL FLASH-RUST AFTER THIS

Iron removers read pH neutral in the bottle but turn acidic as they react with fallout — binding dissolved iron releases hydrogen ions — and acid-exposed cast iron rusts within minutes of the rinse. Alkaline cleaners barely touch rotors; acids wake them up. Finish the wheel with Hyde's Serum Rustopper sprayed on the wet rotor and keep the orange dust off your clean wheels.
