Bilt Hamber Cleanser-Fluid | Non-Abrasive Paint Cleanser & Wax Prep
A better answer than an IPA wipedown
Everyone reaches for isopropyl alcohol before a wax or a coating. It's cheap, it flashes off, and it removes polishing oils. It's also a fairly blunt instrument — it does a mediocre job on hydrocarbon road film and old wax, and a heavy IPA wipe can leave freshly corrected paint looking hazy.
Cleanser-Fluid is what Bilt Hamber built to replace it. Their own words: it is a "pure chemical cleaner" that removes hydrocarbon road films, oil-based matter and silicones, and it provides "the deepest non-abrasive cleaning" for paint before wax or sealant.
Non-abrasive means non-abrasive
There are zero abrasives in this. It removes nothing but contamination. That's the entire design brief: strip everything that would sit between your protection and your clear coat, and touch the clear coat itself not at all. It is a solvent system — Bilt Hamber's SDS declares a dearomatised petroleum distillate (C11–C14, under 2% aromatics) at 30–50% — so it dissolves what it's after rather than grinding it off.
This is the step that makes your wax last
Bilt Hamber are unambiguous that Cleanser-Fluid dramatically boosts wax longevity, and they put their money on it: the Finis-Wax money-back longevity guarantee is conditional on applying it over Cleanser-Fluid. A manufacturer only ties a refund to a prep step when the prep step genuinely determines the outcome.
Think about what a wax actually bonds to. If there's a film of old degraded carnauba, silicone and road grime in the way, your new wax is bonding to that — and it will leave when that does.
Cleanser-Fluid or Cleanser-Polish?
Cleanser-Fluid: no abrasives. Pure chemical cleaning. Use it when the paint is already correct and you just want it surgically clean before protecting it.
Cleanser-Polish: contains ultra-fine abrasives plus resin. Use it when the paint has light oxidation, holograms or fine marring that needs refining and cleaning in one step.
If in doubt: correct with Cleanser-Polish, then clean with Cleanser-Fluid, then protect. They're a sequence, not alternatives.
How to use it
Use after claying. Atomise onto a cool, shaded panel until it's wetted, then wipe off quickly with a microfibre, turning the cloth frequently, until the panel is dry. Then wax immediately.
Supplied 500ml with microfibre cloth and trigger spray.
Handle it properly
EUH066 — repeated exposure may cause skin dryness or cracking. Nitrile gloves, work ventilated, keep it away from ignition sources.
