bilt-hamber-touch-less-sugar-based-snow-foam-pre-wash
Bilt Hamber Touch-Less | Sugar-Based Snow Foam Pre-Wash

"Sugar-based" is not marketing. It's the formulation.

Most brands would say "sugar-based" and hope you didn't look. So look. Bilt Hamber's safety data sheet declares D-glucopyranose, oligomers, decyl octyl glycosides (CAS 68515-73-1) at 10–30% and C10-16 alkyl glycosides (CAS 110615-47-9) at 1–10%. Those are alkyl polyglucosides — APGs — non-ionic surfactants built by condensing glucose with a fatty alcohol. The hydrophilic head genuinely is a sugar. The claim is literal, and it's declared at CAS level.

Why APGs matter

APGs are readily biodegradable, they're derived from renewable feedstock rather than petrochemistry, and — the part that matters when the chemical is sitting on your paint for five minutes — they clean hard without needing to be aggressive. Bilt Hamber back that up with what they've left out: no phosphates, no solvents, no NTA and no caustic soda.

The pH, honestly

Touch-Less sits at pH 10.5 per Bilt Hamber's SDS. It is alkaline — you need alkalinity to saponify road film and lift oily soil, and anyone selling you a "pH neutral" product that strips a filthy car is selling you something that doesn't work. But 10.5 is mild. Put it next to Auto-Foam at pH 13 or Surfex-HD at pH 13.25 and you're looking at roughly two orders of magnitude less hydroxide. Each pH step is a tenfold change. That's the whole argument for Touch-Less on a maintained, coated or waxed car.

You may see "pH 12" quoted for this product elsewhere online. It's wrong. The SDS says 10.5.

It protects while it cleans

Bilt Hamber confirm Touch-Less contains corrosion inhibitors. They don't disclose which, and we won't speculate — but a pre-wash that leaves inhibitor behind on bare metal, brake hardware and seams is doing more than a pre-wash needs to.

How to use it

0.5% to 2% at the panel — that's Panel Impact Ratio, the concentration actually landing on the paint, not what's in the bottle. Go to 2% for a genuinely dirty car. Dwell 1 to 5 minutes and never let it dry. Pressure washer foam lance, pump sprayer or trigger — all work.

Handle it properly

Bilt Hamber classify Touch-Less as Eye Dam. 1, H318 — Danger, causes serious eye damage. Wear eye protection. Mild alkalinity and gentle-on-eyes are not the same thing.

Safety Data Sheet (Australia)
Download the Bilt Hamber Touch-Less SDS (PDF)
